Our February Circles of Voices (CoV) will host Tawanda Jones and Aunt Diane, founders of the West Coalition. We will celebrate their family, and hear about the realities of countless people who experience police brutality in Baltimore. We are very excited about this session, as the West family is deeply loved by our Circles of Voices community.
The West Coalition was founded in July 2013 in response to their brother and son, Tyrone West, being brutally murdered by Baltimore police during a traffic stop. Through the West Coalition, Tyrone’s family began weekly protests, the profoundly impactful activist movement called West Wednesday. For an unbroken 181 weeks, rain or shine, Tawanda Jones and Aunt Diane have shared their stories and have led persistent demonstrations that seek justice for Tyrone West and for all victims of police brutality throughout the United States.
J.C. Faulk and Verna Myers will facilitate a discussion intended to bring us together, in order to better understand the dynamic of families that have been deeply affected by police brutality. Join us for this important conversation.
We will see you Saturday, February 11th at the Impact Hub [10 E North Ave] from 6-9pm. Be sure to come early as we will begin our conversation by 6:15. Bring food and/or drink to share and feel free to invite friends, family, and colleagues. Due to increased participation at COV sessions, it is crucial to reserve a seat using our Eventbrite link: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/circles-of-voices-the-west-coalition-tickets-30963184719
